Waxed bread bags are perfect for keeping bread fresh, sealing around the bread to prevent drying out, yet allowing the bread to breathe, extending the life of your bread for as long as possible.
Really useful for prolonging the life of artisan and homemade bread that don’t have the supermarket preservatives, but also suitable for shop bought loaves too.
The bags are really to clean, simply shake out the crumbs after use and then use a sponge to wash out the inside of the bread bag in your washing up bowl. Our bags are 41cm tall by 36cm wide at the top with an 9cm gusset at the bottom, so they fit all loaves comfortably. The bags are cotton, machine sewn then given a beeswax coating.
To use simply pop in the bread and fold over the top a couple of times. The warmth from your hand will activate the wax and seal the top.
Over time the wax surface will start to soften and it will look a bit tired but it can be revived by putting it into the oven . Don’t panic! Wash the bag thoroughly and leave to dry completely. Put a sheet of grease proof paper inside the bag to stop the two sides sticking together then put on a baking sheet and into a warm oven 140 degrees centigrade for just one minute, then remove and leave to cool for another minute before removing the grease proof paper. When cool enough to handle, reshape and it’s ready to use again. REMEMBER… beeswax is flammable so take
