At Wonky Soaps our aim is to make only natural products and use recyclable or biodegradable packaging wherever possible. We use only natural ingredients but many soap companies still use palm oil as one of their main components of the soap, shower and bath products. Although it is now possible to buy ethically resourced palm oil, At Wonky Soaps, we have decided against this. Palm oil is a cheap product, which is why you see it in so many cosmetic products. However, the rainforest and our eco-system are being devastated by the clearing of vast tracts of land every year; areas that provide a habitat for so many very important species. Sustainable, in this context, just means the replanting of trees, but as they will take many years to grow, the impact on the environment is still enormous. To save the world is an impossible task, but if we try to change our habits, one product at a time, hopefully we can make a difference. It is with this philosophy that at Wonky Soap, we try to sell only ethically resourced accessories that are made from bamboo wood and fibre plus other natural materials. Bamboo fibre creates a beautifully soft fabric, but is hard wearing.

We are all guilty of buying facial cleansing wipes in plastic packaging that are not recyclable. We have become used to our disposable, throw away society and all it entails. Thankfully the world is changing and if we want a beautiful world for our children and our children’s children, we need to start making changes now.

Using face cloths and soap to wash your face may seem like stepping back in time, but maybe our grandparents were right all along. At Wonky Soaps, our hand made soap creates a wonderful lather and because it contains such a high content of oils and a very small content of water, it is very moisturising on the skin. The addition of pure botanicals, essential oils and parfum create a lovely bathing experience. Our velvet bamboo and hand crocheted make up remover pads are perfect as the first step in your cleansing routine, to remove your make up, followed by washing your face and body with our bamboo face cloths and luxurious soap. I have always used face cloths and 100% bamboo ones are fine, but so soft on the skin. In the shower you can use our linen or sisal soap bags. Just put the cake of soap into the bag and you will get a wonderful lather. Using the soap bag also means that you can use the soap right down to the last bit, meaning no waste. Just remember that as soap is a natural product, it will dissolve in water so to make your soap last longer, it needs to dry out between uses. Our bamboo soap racks are perfect for this. They allow the air to circulate around the soap.

I sound like I’m on my “Soap Box!” but I really want everyone to ditch their shower gels in favour of soap, not just to wash your hands, but everyday in the shower too. Think of all the plastic waste contained in our shower gel bottles. Try it, love it and help to save the planet at the same time. You really can make a difference!
